Backup Gmail Emails

Google finally lets you download your Gmail data. Here's how to download a copy of every message* in Gmail to an email client:

  1. Login to Gmail or see our tutorial about Gmail Login for more details.
  2. Click Settings at the top of your Gmail page
  3. Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab
  4. Select Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded).
  5. Click Save Changes.
  6. Now you can use other mail clients to see Gmail Emails in offline mode. Some popular mail clients are: Outlook, Apple Mail, Sparrow, etc. Open the mail client you've configured for Gmail, and check for new messages.
Gmail messages are downloaded in batches, so it may take time for everything to appear in your mail client.
**Note**: Messages in Spam and Trash aren't downloaded unless you move them to your inbox or All Mail.
